Those seeking traditional Acapulco food must visit the Central Market or eateries in Puerto Marqués to discover the port’s gastronomic roots. Here you can taste local recipes and snacks like the famous picaditas (fried corn tortillas topped with serrano chili salsa); juicy pellizcadas (tortillas filled with fish, olives, and spices); or a fish and yerba santa tamale, known locally as acuyo.

To round off a typical meal, Acapulco offers plenty of candies for visitors with a sweet tooth: caramel, coconut, mango, banana, and tamarind (savory, spicy, or sweet). These are the local jewels in the culinary crown.
