If you're a history buff- or even if you're not, travel back in time in the Reno, Carson City, Virginia City area. The mining of the Comstock Lodes- gold and silver is the area where it all started. Actually Sutter Mill close to Sacramento- but this area is close enough to see the old mines, and visit ghost towns, opera houses, and "other houses". You can also visit the area where the Donner Party was stranded in a snow storm on their migration west.

The TV show Bonanza (filmed in the 80's) with Hoss, Little Joe and the others is in this area. It's still a popular visitors area, probably kept alive by the re-runs on TV.

Reno, known as "The Biggest Little City in the World", is famous for its casinos, and is the birthplace of the gaming corporation Harrah's Entertainment. Reno is northern Nevada's answer to big shows and gambling. The food and the lavish buffets equal any you'll savor in Las Vegas. Lake Tahoe offers the finest skiing of anywhere. 3 days in this area is NOT long enough! There's just too much to see and do no matter what time of year you visit.
